There has always been a notion that the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy is limited to just the Bengaluru International Film Festival. It is true that when the renowned director of our state, T.S. Nagabharana, was the chairman, he strived to keep this Academy somewhat active. He formulated many new kinds of programs. Despite the government grants being meager, several programs he implemented became popular. All those who came after him have only put the Academy to sleep. For the Kannada film industry, this Academy has become literally useless. There is no connection between the activities of the Kannada film industry and the Academy. When the Bengaluru International Film Festival comes around, some people come, eat, and leave. Others come, celebrate it like a fair, and go.
