ಒಂದು ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿನಿಮಾ ಸಂಗೀತ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಧನೆ ಮಾಡಿದವರು ಸಾಧು ಕೋಕಿಲ. ಮ್ಯೂಸಿಕ್ ವಿಚಾರದಲ್ಲೀತ ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ ಪ್ರತಿಭಾವಂತ. ನಂತರ, ಕಾಮಿಡಿ ನಟನಾಗಿ ಗುರುತಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಅತಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಸಂಭಾವನೆ ಪಡೆಯುವ ಹಾಸ್ಯ ಕಲಾವಿದ ಅಂತನ್ನಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಅದು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಸಾಧು ಕೋಕಿಲಾ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದೆಲ್ಲಾ ಶೋಕಿ ಕೆಲಸಗಳೇ. ಇಂಥಾ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ಸ್ಥಾನದ ಅಧಿಕಾರ ಸಿಕ್ಕರೆ ಏನು ಮಾಡುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಸಾಧ್ಯ? ಅದ್ಯಾವುದರ ಕೈಗೋ ಮಾಣಿಕ್ಯ ಸಿಕ್ಕರೆ ಏನೇನೋ ಮಾಡಿತಂತೆ! ಸಾಧು ಕೋಕಿಲಾ ವರಸೆ ಕೂಡಾ ಈಗ ಹಾಗೇ ಆಗಿದೆ. ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ಸ್ಥಾನದ ಅಧಿಕಾರವನ್ನು ತನ್ನ ಸ್ವಾರ್ಥಕ್ಕೆ ಬಳಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎನ್ನುವ ಆರೋಪವೀಗ ಸಾಧು ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಕೇಳಿಬರುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಈತ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷನಾಗಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚೂಕಡಿಮೆ ಎರಡು ವರ್ಷವೇ ಆಗಿವೆ. ಈ ಅವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಧು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಅಂತಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರೋತ್ಸವ ಮಾಡಿದ ಎನ್ನುವುದನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟರೆ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ ಕೆಲಸಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಈತನ ಪಾತ್ರ ಶೂನ್ಯ. ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ ಸಾಧನೆಯೂ ಸೊನ್ನೆ. ಇಂತಹ ಪುರುಷಾರ್ಥಕ್ಕೆ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ ಯಾಕೆ ಬೇಕು? ಇಂತಹ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಗೆ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ಎನ್ನುವ ಸ್ಥಾನವಾದರೂ ಯಾಕೆ ಬೇಕು? ಇದು ಚಿತ್ರರಂಗದ ಪ್ರಜ್ಞಾವಂತರು ಕೇಳುತ್ತಿರುವ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ!

ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ ಅಂದರೆ, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಅಂತಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಚಲನ ಚಿತ್ರೋತ್ಸವಕ್ಕಷ್ಟೇ ಸೀಮಿತ ಎನ್ನುವ ಮಾತು ಮಾದಲಿನಿಂದಲೂ ಇದೆ. ನಾಡಿನ ಹೆಸರಾಂತ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕ ಟಿ.ಎಸ್. ನಾಗಾಭರಣ ಅವರು ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿದ್ದಾಗ ಈ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯನ್ನು ಒಂದಿಷ್ಟು ಕ್ರೀಯಾಶೀಲವಾಗಿರಿಸಲು ಶ್ರಮಿಸಿದರು ಅನ್ನೋದು ನಿಜ. ಅನೇಕ ಹೊಸ ಬಗೆಯ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನು ರೂಪಿಸಿದರು. ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಅನುದಾನ ಅಷ್ಟಕಷ್ಟೆ ಎನ್ನುವುದರ ನಡುವೆಯೂ ಅವರು ಕಾರ್ಯರೂಪಕ್ಕೆ ತಂದ ಹಲವು ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳು ಜನಪ್ರಿಯವಾದವು. ಆ ನಂತರ ಬಂದವರೆಲ್ಲಾ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯನ್ನು ಬೆಚ್ಚಗೆ ಮಲಗಿಸಿದವರೇ. ಕನ್ನಡ ಚಿತ್ರರಂಗದ ಪಾಲಿಗೆ ಈ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯೆನ್ನೋದು ಅಕ್ಷರಶಃ ಕೆಲಸಕ್ಕೆ ಬಾರದಂತಾಗಿದೆ. ಕನ್ನಡ ಚಿತ್ರರಂಗದ ಚುಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳಿಗೂ, ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಗೂ ಸಂಬಂಧವೇ ಇಲ್ಲವಾಗಿದೆ. ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಅಂತಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರೋತ್ಸವ ಬಂದಾಗ ಕೆಲವರು ಉಂಡು ಹೋಗುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಮತ್ತೆ ಕೆಲವರು ಬಂದು ಜಾತ್ರೆ ಮಾಡಿ ಸಂಭ್ರಮಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇದು ಬಿಟ್ಟರೆ, ಕನ್ನಡ ಚಿತ್ರರಂಗಕ್ಕೆ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯ ಕೊಡುಗೆ ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ ಜೀರೋ!

ಸದ್ಯಕ್ಕೀಗ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ಸಾಧು ಕೋಕಿಲಾ ವಿದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಆಗಾಗ ವಿದೇಶಕ್ಕೆ ಹಾರುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಅವರಿಗಿದು ಸುಲಭವಾದ ಮಾರ್ಗ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟಿದೆ. ʻʻಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರು, ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ, ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಸರ್ಕಾರʼʼ ಎನ್ನುವ ವಿಸಿಟಿಂಗ್ ಕಾರ್ಡ್ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿದೆ. ಫಾರಿನ್ ಚಿತ್ರೋತ್ಸವಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಈತನಿಗೆ ಬಹುಬೇಗ ಐಡೆಂಟಿಟಿ ಸಿಗುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಸೀಲ್ ನೋಡಿದವರು ಸಲೀಸಾಗಿ ಗುರುತಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅಲ್ಲದೆ. ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯ ಕಾಸು, ಕಜ್ಜಾಯ ಸಿಗುತ್ತೆ. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಸಾಧು ಕೋಕಿಲನ ಸುತ್ತಾಟ ಈಗ ಬಾರೀ ಜೋರಿದೆ. ಉಳಿದಂತೆ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಏನು? ಈತ ಹೋಗುವ ಅಂತರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಚಿತ್ರೋತ್ಸವಗಳಿಂದ ಕನ್ನಡ ಚಿತ್ರರಂಗಕ್ಕೆ ಏನು ಲಾಭ? ಅದನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ ಯಾರೂ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ ಮಾಡುವಂತಿಲ್ಲ. ಸಾಧು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವ ನಾಲಾಯಕ್ಕು ಕೆಲಸಗಳು ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯ ಸದಸ್ಯರಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ ಬೇಸರ ತರಿಸಿದೆ. ಕೈಗೇ ಸಿಗದೇ ಓಡಾಡುವ ಈತನ ವರ್ತನೆಯಿಂದ ಕೆಲವರು ಬೇಸತ್ತು ರಾಜೀನಾಮೆ ನೀಡುವುದಕ್ಕೂ ಮುಂದಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎನ್ನುವ ಸುದ್ದಿಯಿದೆ. ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ವಿಶೇಷ ಸಂಗತಿಯೇನೆಂದರೆ ಕಾನ್ಸ್ ಫಿಲ್ಮ್ ಫೆಸ್ಟಿವಲ್‌ಗೆ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ಸಾಧು ನಿಯೋಗವೊಂದನ್ನು ಕರೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗಿದ್ದರು. ಈ ತಂಡದಲ್ಲಿ ವಾರ್ತಾ ಇಲಾಖೆ ಆಯುಕ್ತರು ಮತ್ತು ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿಗಳೂ ಇದ್ದರು. ಇಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಅಲ್ಲೀತನಕ ಹೋದಮೇಲೆ ನೋಡಿದರೆ ಇಬ್ಬರಿಗೂ ಸಮಾರಂಭದ ಪಾಸ್ ಕೂಡಾ ಸಿಗಲಿಲ್ಲವಂತೆ. ಹೀಗೆ ಅವಮಾನವಾಗಿದ್ದ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕೆ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ ರಿಜಿಸ್ಟ್ರಾರ್ ಹಿಮಂತ್ ರಾಜು ವರ್ಗಾವಣೆ ಆಗಿದ್ದಾರೆನ್ನುವ ಸುದ್ದಿಯಿದೆ. ಇವೆಲ್ಲ ಅವಘಡಗಳು ಸಾಧೂನ ತಲೆ ಹರಟೆಗಳಿಂದಲೇ ಘಟಿಸುತ್ತಿವೆ. ಇಷ್ಟಾಗಿಯೂ ಆತನ ಚೇಷ್ಟೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ನಿಲ್ಲುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ.

ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಗೆ ಸರ್ಕಾರದಿಂದ ಸದಸ್ಯರು ನೇಮಕವಾದ ಮೇಲೆ ಒಂದು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಸಮಿತಿ ಸಭೆ ನಡೆದಿದೆ. ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಒಂದೇ ಒಂದು ಸಭೆಯೂ ನಡೆದಿಲ್ಲ. ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯ ಸದಸ್ಯರಿಗೂ ಇದು ಬೇಕಾದಂತೆ ಕಾಣುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ. ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯ ಬೈಲಾ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಮೂರು ತಿಂಗಳಿಗೊಮ್ಮೆ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಸಮಿತಿ ಸಭೆ ಕರೆಯಬೇಕೆನ್ನುವ ನಿಯಮವಿದೆ. ಆದರೆ ಈಗ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಸಭೆ ನಡೆದು ನಾಲ್ಕು ತಿಂಗಳಾಗಿದೆ. ಆದರೂ ಸಭೆ ನಡೆದಿಲ್ಲ. ಹೋಗಲಿ ಹಿಂದಿನ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಸಮಿತಿ ಸಭೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡು ನಿರ್ಣಯಗಳು, ಕ್ರೀಯಾಯೋಜನೆಯ ಜಾರಿಯೂ ಆಗಿಲ್ಲ. ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ ಎನ್ನುವುದು ನೆಪಮಾತ್ರ ಎನ್ನುವಂತಾಗಿದೆ. ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯ ಈ ಅವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಬೇಸರ ಹೊರ ಹಾಕುವ ಒಬ್ಬ ಸದಸ್ಯರೊಬ್ಬರು ʻʻಯಾರದ್ದೋ ಶೋಕಿಗೆ, ಅವರ ಲೂಟಿಗೆ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ಇಂತಹ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಗಳನ್ನು ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಳ್ಳಬಾರದು. ಯಾರೋ ತಿಂದುಕೊಳ್ಳಲಿ ಎನ್ನುವ ಉದಾಸೀನತೆ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ್ದಾಗಿದ್ದರೆ ಇದನ್ನು ಮುಚ್ಚಿ ಬಿಡುವುದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದುʼʼ ಎಂದು ಸಿಟ್ಟು ಹೊರ ಹಾಕಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ʻʻಸರ್ಕಾರ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಗೆ ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ನೇಮಕ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾಗ ಸಿನಿಮಾ ರಂಗದ ಅನೇಕ ಮಂದಿ ಕರೆ ಮಾಡಿ ಶುಭಾಶಯ ತಿಳಿಸುವುದರ ಜತೆಗೆ ಏನಾದರೂ ಹೊಸತನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿ, ಕನ್ನಡ ಚಿತ್ರರಂಗಕ್ಕೂ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಗೂ ಬೆಸುಗೆ ಹಾಕಿಕೊಂಡೇ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದ್ದರು. ನಾವು ಕೂಡ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಸಲಹೆ, ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೇವೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದ್ದೆವು. ದುರಂತ ಅಂದ್ರೆ, ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಹೋದಾಗ ಗೊತ್ತಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಇದು ಯಾರೋ ಒಬ್ಬರ ಹಿತಾಸಕ್ತಿಗೆ ಮೀಸಲಾದ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ ಎನ್ನುವ ಸಂಗತಿ. ದೇವರು ಕೊಟ್ಟರೂ, ಪೂಜಾರಿ ಕೊಡಲಿಲ್ಲ ಎನ್ನುವ ಹಾಗೆ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಹಣ ಮೀಸಲಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು, ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರು ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಅನುದಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಕನ್ನ ಹಾಕುವ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಹೀಗಾದರೆ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ ಏನು ಮಾಡಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯ? ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಇಷ್ಟರಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಇದೆಲ್ಲವನ್ನು ಹೊರ ಹಾಕಬೇಕೆನ್ನುವ ಉದ್ದೇಶ ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದೇವೆʼʼʼ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯ ಮತ್ತೊಬ್ಬ ಸದಸ್ಯ!

ಕನ್ನಡದ ಚಿತ್ರರಂಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಧು ಕೋಕಿಲ ಒಬ್ಬ ಪ್ರತಿಭಾವಂತ ಸಂಗೀತ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕ, ಡೈರೆಕ್ಟರ್, ಹಾಸ್ಯ ನಟ, ಸಿಂಗರ್ ಕೂಡ. ದುರಂತವೆಂದರೆ ಆತ ಪ್ರತಿಭಾವಂತ ಎನ್ನುವುದರ ಜೊತೆಗೇ ಆತನ ಮೇಲಿರುವ ಆರೋಪಗಳೇನು ಕಡಿಮೆಯಲ್ಲ. ಈ ಹೊತ್ತಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿಕ್ಕ ಅವಕಾಶವನ್ನು ಒಳ್ಳೇ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಳಸಿಕೊಂಡು, ಕನ್ನಡ ಚಿತ್ರರಂಗಕ್ಕೆ ಉಪಯುಕ್ತವಾಗುವ ಉತ್ತಮ ಕೆಲಸಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡಬಬಹುದಿತ್ತು. ಆದರೆ ಅದ್ಯಾವುದನ್ನೂ ಸಾಧು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ!

ಅಸಲಿಗೆ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯ ಉದ್ದೇಶ, ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿ, ಅಳತೆಗಳೇ ಸಾಧು ಕೋಕಿಲಾಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ ಎನ್ನುವ ಆರೋಪ ಕೇಳಿಬರುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಈ ಸ್ಥಾನಕ್ಕೀತ ಅನ್ ಫಿಟ್ ಅನ್ನೋದು ಬಹುತೇಕರ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯವಾಗಿದೆ. ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷಗಾದಿ ಹಿಡಿದು ಕುಂತಿರುವ ಸಾಧುಗೆ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿರುವ ಕಾರನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮ ದೈನಂದಿನ ಚಿತ್ರೀಕರಣಕ್ಕೆ ಬಳಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎನ್ನುವ ಗಂಭೀರ ಆರೋಪವೂ ಕೇಳಿಬರುತ್ತಿದೆ.

ಹೆಸರಿಗೆ ಸಾಧು ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾದರೂ ಅವರ ಮಗ ಸುರಾಗ್ ಇಡೀ ಅಕಾಡಿಮಿಯ ಸೂತ್ರಧಾರನಾಗಿದ್ದಾನಂತೆ. ಏನೇ ಕೆಲಸಗಳಾಗಬೇಕು ಅಂದ್ರೂ ಮರಿ ಸಾಧು ಅಪ್ಪಣೆ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕಂತೆ. ಸಿನಿಮಾರಂಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಸನ್ ಸ್ಟ್ರೋಕ್ ಅನ್ನೋದು ಹೊಸದೇನೂ ಅಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೆ ತೀರಾ ಅಪ್ಪನ ಸಾಮ್ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೂತು ಆಳ್ವಿಕೆ ನಡೆಸುತ್ತಿರೋ ಸುರಾಗ್ ವಿರುದ್ದ ಅಪಸ್ವರಗಳು ವ್ಯಾಪಕವಾಗಿ ಕೇಳಿಬರ್ತಿವೆ.

ಸಿಕ್ಕಿರುವ ಪದವಿಯನ್ನು ಯಾರೇ ಆದರೂ ದುರುಪಯೋಗ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬಾರದು. ಬೇಜವಬ್ದಾರಿಯುತವಾಗಿ ಬಳಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬಾರದು. ಸಾಧು ಕೋಕಿಲಾ ಈ ಕೂಡಲೇ ಎಚ್ಚೆತ್ತುಕೊಂಡು ಮಗನ ಹಾವಳಿಯನ್ನು ಕೊನೆಗಾಣಿಸಬೇಕು. ಇಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದಲ್ಲಿ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಮುಂದೆ ಸಾಧು ಮಹಾರಾಜರು ತಲೆ ತಗ್ಗಿಸಬೇಕಾದ ಸ್ಥಿತಿ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣವಾಗೋದು ಗ್ಯಾರೆಂಟಿ.

Once upon a time, Sadhu Kokila was a man who achieved great things in the field of film music. When it came to music, he was truly talented. Later, he established himself as a comedy actor and became known as one of the highest-paid comedians. Beyond that, everything Sadhu Kokila did was for show. What can a person like this possibly do if given the authority of the Academy’s chairmanship? As the saying goes, “When a gem falls into the wrong hands, it is misused in many ways!” Sadhu Kokila’s conduct has now become just like that. Accusations are now being heard that he is using the authority of the Academy Chairman position for his own selfish purposes. It has been almost two years since he became the Chairman of the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy. During this period, apart from conducting the Bengaluru International Film Festival, his role in the Academy’s work has been nil. The Academy’s achievements are also zero. There has always been a notion that the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy is limited to just the Bengaluru International Film Festival. It is true that when the renowned director of our state, T.S. Nagabharana, was the chairman, he strived to keep this Academy somewhat active. He formulated many new kinds of programs. Despite the government grants being meager, several programs he implemented became popular. All those who came after him have only put the Academy to sleep. For the Kannada film industry, this Academy has become literally useless. There is no connection between the activities of the Kannada film industry and the Academy. When the Bengaluru International Film Festival comes around, some people come, eat, and leave. Others come, celebrate it like a fair, and go. Apart from this, the contribution of the Film Academy to the Kannada film industry is truly zero!

Currently, the Chairman of the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy, Sadhu Kokila, is abroad. This has created an easy path for him to fly abroad frequently. He has a visiting card that says, “Chairman, Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy, Government of Karnataka.” This gives him a quick identity at foreign film festivals. Those who see the government seal recognize him easily. Moreover, he gets the Academy’s money and perks. Hence, Sadhu Kokila’s travels are now in full swing. What about the rest of the Academy’s work? What is the benefit to the Kannada film industry from the international film festivals he attends? No one is allowed to question this. The unworthy tasks that Sadhu is doing have genuinely upset the members of the Academy. There is news that some are so fed up with his behavior of being unavailable that they are planning to resign. Another special matter is that Chairman Sadhu had taken a delegation to the Cannes Film Festival. This team included the Commissioner of the Information Department and a government secretary. After traveling all the way there, it seems neither of them even received passes for the event. There is news that the Academy’s Registrar, Himanth Raju, was transferred because of this humiliating incident. All these mishaps are occurring due to Sadhu’s blunders. Despite all this, his antics have not stopped.

After the members were appointed to the Academy by the government, one general body meeting was held. Since then, not a single meeting has taken place. It seems the Academy members are also not concerned about this. According to the Academy’s bylaws, a general body meeting must be convened once every three months. But it has now been four months since the last meeting, and still, no meeting has been held. Furthermore, the resolutions and action plans decided upon in the previous general body meeting have not been implemented. The Academy has become a mere namesake. Expressing his frustration about this chaotic state of the Academy, one member vented, “The government should not maintain such academies for someone’s showmanship and loot. If the government’s attitude is to let someone feast on it, it is better to shut it down.”

Another member of the Academy says, “When the government appointed us to the Film Academy, many people from the film industry called to congratulate us and also said, ‘Do something new, create programs that connect the Kannada film industry with the Academy.’ We also said that we would offer good suggestions and make an effort. The tragedy is, after going there, we realized that this is an Academy dedicated to the interests of one person. It’s like the saying, ‘God gave, but the priest did not.’ Even though government funds are allocated, the officials and the chairman work to siphon off the government grants. If this is the case, what can the Academy possibly do? Therefore, we intend to expose all of this very soon.”

In the Kannada film industry, Sadhu Kokila is a talented music director, director, comedy actor, and also a singer. The tragedy is that along with his talent, the allegations against him are not insignificant. He could have used the opportunity he has been given in a good way and done useful work for the Kannada film industry. But Sadhu is not doing any of that!

The Son’s Reign!

Within film industry circles, more dissatisfaction and rumors are circulating about Sadhu… An allegation is being heard that Sadhu Kokila doesn’t even know the purpose, scope, and measure of the Academy. The opinion of most is that he is unfit for this position. There is also a serious allegation that Sadhu, who is sitting on the chairman’s throne, is using the car provided by the government for his daily film shoots.

Though Sadhu is the chairman in name, his son Surag is said to be the one pulling all the strings of the Academy. Apparently, for any work to be done, one has to take “Junior Sadhu’s” permission. “Son-stroke” (a pun on sunstroke, referring to nepotism) is nothing new in the film industry. But voices of dissent are being widely heard against Surag, who is ruling as if in his father’s kingdom.

Whoever is given a position should not misuse it. It should not be used irresponsibly. Sadhu Kokila must wake up immediately and put an end to his son’s interference. Otherwise, it is guaranteed that Sadhu Maharaj will have to bow his head in front of the government.
